
FVTC Welding and Metal Fabrication Open House Returns April 30th
Mark your calendar for a special open house at Fox Valley Technical College’s metal fabrication and welding facility in Appleton. Join us Thursday, April 30 from 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM to tour FVTC’s facility and connect with students, instructors, and industry professionals from across the region. FVTC has built one of the best metal fab programs in the country and a training facility with new equipment from leading vendors. Additionally, the event will feature a handful of brief seminars covering topics in laser automation, lean press brake operation, and best practices for heavy plate forming. Equipment under Power, Factory Reps on Hand
Reps from equipment vendors will be on hand to run demos and answer product and applications questions. FVTC’s fab lab includes a Mits GXF Advanced Fiber, Cincinnati brakes with precision tooling and hydraulic clamping from Wilson Tool International, Flow waterjet, and a welding lab with the latest equipment from Miller.
Seminar Schedule:
9:30 AM – Advantages of Laser Nest Conveyors in Automated Laser Systems
Roger Frank (Metalcraft of Mayville), Tim Bedore (K&S Manufacturing), and Shane Peltier (Ncell Software) will discuss the advantages of nest conveyor systems for improving throughput, visibility, and eliminating denesting errors for automated laser cutting systems.
10:30 AM – Leveraging Press Brake Software for Efficiency
Nick Yatsko and Chase Peasley (Cincinnati) will discuss how shops can pick an offline bending software solution scaled to fit to their needs and use it to boost efficiency in the process.
11:30 AM – Reducing Press Brake Setup Time
AJ Vehlow (Greenheck Group) will cover strategies for reducing press brake setup times and boosting overall brake production. The seminar covers ideas from no and low-cost ideas operator aids to equipment modifications, new brake technologies, and automation.
12:30 PM – Bending Heavy Material
Steve Brown (Wilson Tool International) leads a session covering best practices and tooling suggestions for forming heavy material and reducing tool marks.
