Fiber or CO2? – it depends on the application

A fiber will blow away a CO2 at high speed nitrogen cutting. But now that fibers have been in the field for a few years owners are seeing that they are better at some tasks than others. For example, CO2’s are more forgiving when it comes to oxygen cutting steel, and less sensitive to the dust generated by that application.

Mitsubishi is committed to both fiber and CO2. The ground breaking “Zoom” head standard on the 6kw fiber has been described as the nicest in the business.  And Mitsubishi was the only big name to show a CO2 at Fabtech 2015, a new model.  Both resonators, the IPG fiber and Mitsubishi cross flow CO2, have a low cost of ownership and never need a refurb.

Creative Metal, a Neenah, Wisconsin job shop, has found that the two technologies complement each other in a dual FMS line.  Read about Creative’s experience in a recent article in THE EDGE magazine. Fiber complements CO2 at Creative Metal
